SpaFinder is a devoted advocate of melanoma awareness, a cause near and dear to our hearts. Our 2009 industry-wide educational campaign focuses on spreading a greater understanding about sun damage and the importance of daily sunscreen use, self-examination, and yearly dermatologist full-body checkups. Take this opportunity to strengthen your relationship with clients and your community in a way that is not just skin deep! Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer. More than 65,000 people will be diagnosed this year, and an estimated 11,000 of those will lose their lives. We urge our SpaFinder Partners to raise awareness about the dangers of melanoma by organizing charity events, educating clients on sun safety, and promoting sunscreen use to spa-goers. The SpaFinder "I will reflect" bracelets can be sold or given away at your spa, which we hope will encourage conversation about melanoma prevention. Bracelets are available to SpaFinder Partners at cost and come in packages of 30, 50, and 100 for $2.00 per bracelet, plus shipping & handling. These special bracelets change color when exposed to harmful UVA rays, reminding wearers to apply sunscreen. When you join SpaFinder’s effort to fight melanoma, we will list you under "Our Supporting Spas." You may also chose to donate any proceeds from bracelet sales, to a melanoma prevention charity of your choice. We would like to highlight The Spa at Charleston Place's outstanding "I Will Reflect" campaign. Their second annual initiative kicks off May 4th and features educational events, seminars with a local dermatologist, and the sale of "I will reflect" bracelets, with all proceeds going to the Medical University of South Carolina.
